Vision for Watersports at Brookvale Park
We have ambitious plans to protect and further enhance sailing and watersports activities and so get more people active and on the water at Brookvale Park, Erdington, Birmingham.
With the support of our project partners we plan to do this through our ambitious Community Sport Development Plan. This will involve consulting with existing users, schools and community groups, improving the existing facilities and putting in place a number of community watersport opportunities including:
Brookvale Park is home to a bowling green, tennis courts, a play area, community café a lake. There's a 2-kilometre walking route through the park around the lake. Over 5,500 school children live within less than three miles of the park.
We believe that the site offers great community, watersports potential for the local community for years to come.

With the support of our project partners we plan to do this through our ambitious Community Sport Development Plan. This will involve consulting with existing users, schools and community groups, improving the existing facilities and putting in place a number of community watersport opportunities including:
- Attracting young people to sailing by developing a community schools sailing programme focusing on regular sailing sessions.
- Tackling inactivity in the community for all ages and develop regular sailing opportunities to get everyone active.
- Deliver a volunteer training scheme to develop regular activities and the long-term sustainability of the centre.
- Develop a career pathway to enable the community to access wide ranging opportunities within the marine industry.
- Refurbish the dilapidated sailing club, classroom and changing rooms. Clear and clean the overgrown dinghy park and replacewith a fit for purpose facility that will enhance the sporting experience and helpretain the local community in the sport.
- Operate throughout the year and keep our local community more active for longer.
- Be a financially sustainable (not for profit) centre that benefits local community for years to come.

- Gauge level of demand for the centre from schools, community groups and families.
- Look at the facility, equipment and staffing requirements for centre.
- Obtain a suitable lease for the existing dinghy park and classroom.
- Apply for funding for project.
- Improve the dinghy park and refurbish the classroom facility.
Actions 2020
- Secure facility and equipment funding.
- Recruit and train volunteers and part time staff.
- Start to deliver community watersports activities in the spring of 2020
